Differences Between EN877:2021 and EN877:2006

The EN877 standard specifies the performance requirements of cast iron pipes, fittings and their connectors used in gravity drainage systems in buildings. EN877:2021 is the latest version of the standard, replacing the previous EN877:2006 version. The main differences between the two versions in terms of testing are as follows:

1. Test scope:

EN877:2006: Mainly tests the mechanical properties and sealing properties of pipes and fittings.

EN877:2021: On the basis of the original test, added test requirements for the sound insulation performance, chemical corrosion resistance, fire resistance and other aspects of the pipeline system.

2. Test methods:

EN877:2021 updates some test methods to make them more scientific and reasonable, such as: Chemical corrosion resistance test: New test solutions and test methods are used, such as using pH2 sulfuric acid solution instead of the original hydrochloric acid solution, and adding corrosion resistance tests for more chemicals.

Acoustic performance test: Added test requirements for the sound insulation performance of the pipeline system, such as using the sound pressure level method to measure the sound insulation of the pipeline system.

Fire performance test: Added test requirements for the fire resistance performance of the pipeline system, such as using the fire resistance limit method to test the integrity of the pipeline system under fire conditions. EN877:2021 uses paint with fire resistance grade A1

3. Test requirements:

EN877:2021 has increased the test requirements for some performance indicators, such as: Tensile strength: increased from 150 MPa to 200 MPa.
Elongation: increased from 1% to 2%.

Chemical corrosion resistance: Added corrosion resistance requirements for more chemical substances, such as corrosion resistance requirements for alkaline substances such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide.

4. Test report:

EN877:2021 has stricter requirements on the content and format of the test report, such as: Requires the test report to include detailed information such as test methods, test conditions, test results, and conclusions.

The test report is required to be issued by a qualified testing agency. For example, DINSEN is certified by CASTCO.
The EN877:2021 standard is more comprehensive and stricter in testing than the EN877:2006 standard, reflecting the latest technological developments and market demands in the cast iron pipe industry. The implementation of the new standard will help improve the quality of cast iron pipe products and promote the safety and reliability of building drainage systems.
