DINSEN® Cast Iron KML Pipe and Fittings

KML Pipes for Grease-Containing or Corrosive Wastewaters

KML stands for Küchenentwässerung muffenlos (German for “kitchen sewage socketless”) or Korrosionsbeständig muffenlos (“corrosion-resistant socketless”).

KML pipes and fittings casting quality: Cast iron with flake graphite in accordance with DIN 1561

KML pipes are designed to handle wastewaters containing grease, fats, and corrosive substances, making them ideal for kitchens, laboratories, medical facilities, and similar environments. The buildup of grease can block traditional pipelines, and high-fat content can lead to chemical reactions that compromise the pipeline’s integrity. This is why SML pipes are not recommended for such applications.

KML pipes are specifically designed to withstand these harsh conditions. The interior surface is fully cross-linked epoxy with a minimum thickness of 240μm, ensuring strong resistance against corrosive substances and grease. The exterior features a thermal spray zinc coating with a minimum density of 130g/m², along with a topcoat of grey epoxy resin with a minimum thickness of 60μm. These robust protective layers ensure that KML pipes can endure the rigors of challenging waste streams without degrading. The special coating system of PREIS® KML provides protection against aggressive sewage water and makes the pipe system suitable for underground laying.

  •   • Inner coating
    •         • KML pipes: Epoxy resin ochre yellow 220-300 µm
    •         • KML fittings: Epoxy powder, grey, approx. 250 µm
  •   • Outer coating
    •         • KML pipes: 130g/m2 (zinc) and approx. 60 µm (grey epoxy top coat)
    •         • KML fittings: Epoxy powder, grey, approx. 250 µm

In contrast, SML pipes are intended for above-ground drainage systems, suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations, but primarily for rainwater and general sewage. The interior of SML pipes is coated with a fully cross-linked epoxy resin with a minimum thickness of 120μm, while the exterior is covered with a red-brown primer with a minimum thickness of 80μm. Although SML pipes are coated to prevent scaling and corrosion, they are not ideal for use in systems dealing with high levels of grease or corrosive materials.

Our KML pipes have been successfully exported to countries such as Russia, Poland, Switzerland, France, Sweden, and Germany, where they have been well received for their durability and reliability in challenging environments.
