How to Test Coating Adhesion

The mutual attraction between the contact parts of two different substances is a manifestation of molecular force. It only appears when the molecules of the two substances are very close. For example, there is adhesion between the paint and the DINSEN SML Pipe to which it is applied. It refers to the degree of firmness of the paint film and the surface of the coated object. This bonding force is formed by the interaction between the polar groups (such as hydroxyl or carboxyl) of the polymer in the paint film and the polar groups on the surface of the coated object.
We usually use the grid method to test:
a. Select a suitable surface and place it in a stable position. For a film layer with a thickness of no more than 50um, cut the mark at a 1mm interval. For a film layer with a thickness of 50um-125um, cut the mark at a 2mm interval.
b. Score the required tangent in a perpendicular direction and use a soft brush to remove the separated debris on the film layer.
c. Check whether the cut is scratched to the base. If it does not penetrate to the base, re-grid in other areas.
d. Cut a 3M tape about 75mm long and stick its center section on the scratched surface, making the tape stick evenly to the scratched surface, and rub it with a rubber to make it firmly in contact.
e. Tear off the tape at 180° as much as possible within 90±30s.
f. Check the film layer peeled off from the metal substrate in the grid area under a magnifying glass.
