Recently, steel prices have continued to fall, with the price of steel per ton starting with “2″. Unlike steel prices, vegetable prices have risen due to multiple factors. Vegetable prices have skyrocketed vs. steel prices have plummeted, and steel prices are comparable to “cabbage prices”.
The steel situation is grim, and the downward trend is still continuing. The price of steel per ton is starting with “2″, falling to a 7-year low.
On August 15, the price of ordinary square billets in Qian’an, Tangshan was 2,880 yuan/ton, which is 2.88 yuan/kg when converted to kg. Unlike the steel industry, some vegetable prices have risen significantly recently due to factors such as rainfall and high temperature.
On August 15, taking Hebei Province, a steel-intensive province, as an example, the lowest price of cabbage in a wholesale market in Shijiazhuang was 2.8yuan/kg, the highest price was 3.2 yuan/kg, and the bulk price was 3.0 yuan/kg. According to the bulk calculation, the cabbage in the market reached 3,000 yuan/ton, which was 120 yuan/ton higher than the steel price on that day.
As we all know, although the price of Chinese cabbage has risen, it is relatively low among vegetables, that is to say, the price of many vegetables is higher than the current steel price.
In fact, since the beginning of this year, the domestic steel industry has always been in a difficult situation under the overall market situation of sluggish demand. Judging from the steel PMI index released monthly by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing Steel Logistics Professional Committee, as of July this year, only April and May have slightly stabilized, and the rest are in a severe situation of weak operation or rapid decline.
