On the afternoon of April 19, the first in-person phase of the 135th Canton Fair came to a close. Since its opening on April 15, the in-person exhibition has been bustling with activity, with exhibitors and buyers engaged in busy trade negotiations. As of April 19, the in-person attendee count for overseas buyers from 212 countries and regions reached 125,440, a 23.2% increase from the previous year. Among these, 85,682 buyers came from Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries, representing 68.3%, while buyers from RCEP member countries totaled 28,902, accounting for 23%. Buyers from Europe and North America numbered 22,694, representing 18.1%.
According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, this year’s Canton Fair saw a 46% increase in buyers from BRI countries, and companies from BRI countries accounted for 64% of the exhibitors in the import exhibition section.
The first phase of the Canton Fair was themed “Advanced Manufacturing,” focusing on showcasing the latest developments in new quality productivity. Over five days of in-person exhibitions, trading was lively, marking a strong start to the fair. The first phase featured 10,898 exhibitors, including over 3,000 high-quality companies with titles such as national-level high-tech enterprises, manufacturing industry champions, and specialized “small giants,” representing a 33% increase from the previous year. Companies with high technological content, focusing on smart living, “new three high-tech items,” and industrial automation, saw a 24.4% growth in numbers.
The online platform for this year’s Canton Fair operated smoothly, with 47 functionality optimizations to better facilitate efficient trade connections between suppliers and buyers. By April 19, exhibitors had uploaded over 2.5 million products, and their online stores had been visited 230,000 times. The cumulative number of online visitors reached 7.33 million, with overseas visitors accounting for 90%. A total of 305,785 overseas buyers from 229 countries and regions attended online.
The second phase of the 135th Canton Fair is set to take place from April 23 to 27, with the theme “Quality Home Living.” It will focus on three main sections: home goods, gifts and decorations, and building materials and furniture, spanning 15 exhibition zones. A total of 9,820 exhibitors will participate in the in-person exhibition, with the import exhibition featuring 220 companies from 30 countries and regions.
